Alphonsa Convent Lakhuti was established in the year 28th July 1985. The congregation of the Medical Mission Sisters were working in this center since 1981. They could render only the medical service and the village Apostolate. There was a school
run by the Catholic Church up to Class VII. So with the request of Bishop we took up the entire center. The sisters are engaged in Education, Evangelization, Health ministry, catechetical and village apostolate. Sisters are working in the Parish school. We have dispensary and a trained nurse sister is engaged in the health ministry as well as touring in the villages.
The people of the area belong to Lotha Tribe belonging to wokha Dt. one of the biggest tribe in Nagaland. It is clearly noted that the Lothas are the first one to receive Catholic faith among the Naga tribes. Due to poor transport and communication facilities development is very slow in this region. At present the center is developing and many youth have gone out for the higher studies and the minds of the people are opened to development and progress. There are already nine sisters from this center in FCC.
