The diocese of Guwahati had been asking for the presence of FCC since its erection in the year 1995. Due to the shortage of persons in the province we could not respond to the invitation. Most Rev. Thomas Menamparampil is an ardent devotee of St.
Alphonsa, so we consented to the invitation in the year 2002 and two of our sisters started to stay in the temporary building at Nagaon from December onwards. . Sr. Mary Vellamundayil and Sr. Julie were the first members. They were looking after the construction of the New Convent Building. In 2003, in the month of December the new Convent was completed and the sisters started to stay in the new house. This Convent was named as Alphonsa Convent after the request of Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil. The sisters are working in the school and they go for house visiting and other catechetical work in the parish. This is also a formation house. The Pre-Postulants are kept here.
The majority of the people of the area are Muslims. There are also Assamese, Biharies and some other minor groups of people.
